At heart is a sad and all-too-often corporate focus on the wrong target - margins. The target needs to be on the people, products, clients and being a solid citizen. Corporate myopia on profits helps explains the situation our society is facing - with too many leaders failing to see what really drives performance - and not yet recognizing that company performance and social responsibility are NOT mutually exclusive. Corporate social responsibility is the NEW foundation for sustained long-term performance. And that starts with unselfish leadership and a focus on what really drives growth. BTW, of course there are many companies where there is enlightened, caring leadership. I tip my hat to those many leaders who look to create situations where nobody has to lose.
